Catering assistant / kitchen assistant

ECC is currently looking for Catering Assistants for Essex Schools.

Do you have previous experience as a catering assistant or kitchen assistant?

As a catering assistant in a school kitchen, you will be part of a team providing support in preparing and serving food in the school canteen kitchen to the children. Provide a warm and welcoming catering service with the assistance of engaging and helpful colleagues

Working hours:

These are fixed-term roles (Monday to Friday), flexible hours.

You must be available for work Monday through Friday, on an ongoing basis (during the term of the term).

Functions include:

  • Food Service / Prepare and serve tasty, nutritious and well presented meals
  • Cleaning of premises and equipment
  • Cooking and preparing basic foods such as vegetables, fruits, salads, sandwiches, toast and drinks
  • Work in the food stores area, check and put away orders
  • Help wash kitchen equipment and dishes
  • Keep dining rooms tidy, clean and hygienic
  • Ensure that the kitchen and associated areas are maintained at a high standard of hygiene, including the storage of food and equipment
  • This may involve taking cash, mainly through the use of crates

The person:

Previous experience in a similar role is required. However, this does not necessarily have to be in a school or an educational setting. Assistance with requesting control and customs clearance will be offered by ECC.

We are looking for someone who brings:

  • A real passion for food and an aptitude for following recipes
  • Excellent customer service skills and be very comfortable in a customer-oriented environment
  • Performs well under pressure and is comfortable in a very flexible and fast-paced work environment
  • Enjoys learning new skills and has an enthusiasm for the restaurant business
  • Works well both alone and in a team
  • Basic knowledge of food preparation
  • Good communication and ability to follow instructions
