Free drink with every food order on opening day of Derbyshire’s new cafe and sandwich bar

Roundabout Cafe & Sandwich Bar in High Street, Heanor, welcomes its first customers on Wednesday 16 March 2022.

Company owner Gemma Nixon said: “I will be making coated potatoes, toast, paninis, salad boxes and sandwich fillings. I want it to be more of a sandwich shop because it’s a bit more modern than a cafe.”

Gemma will provide free wi-fi, phone charging stations and daily newspapers at the premises she took over in January.

Gemma Nixon outside her new business on the High Street, Heanor

The 40-year-old mum said: ‘It was a bare shell so I had to buy everything from scratch. I spent around £3000-4000 on furniture, decoration, catering equipment and stock. I hope the business is doing well and I get the money back. It’s a huge risk, but if you don’t take risks in life, you won’t get anywhere.

Gemma, who lives in Heage, has worked in the coffee industry before. She said: “I was a nanny and I was a trainee accountant for a while, but I always come back to it – it’s my passion and I love working with food and customers.”

She will first be helped in the business by a friend and family member, who provide their services free of charge. Gemma hopes to eventually recruit staff and would like to open a second store.

The Roundabout Cafe & Sandwich Bar will be open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
