A village pub in South Derbyshire has been announced as a finalist for a National Pub Award for its outstanding community efforts.
The Robin Hood Inn, Overseal, located south of Swadlincote, Derbyshire, reached the final of the Great British Pub Awards for its contribution to the local community.
Advertising partner Ruth Lewis, her husband Steve and their grandson TJ impressed the judges with their exemplary standards and dedication to the local community.

They now face stiff competition from the other five finalists vying for the award.
The pub was shortlisted for the Hawthorn Pub of the Year category, competing with over 700 Hawthorn community pubs across Scotland, England and Wales.
A true community hub, The Robinhood Inn recently received an investment of £ 47,800, which saw the exterior of the pub completely redecorated, the creation of a large outdoor courtyard, the installation of a pergola, new equipment and many amenities. new plants.
Ruth also completely renovated the bar and lounge at the rear of the pub and invested in catering equipment to enable the pub to offer food.
The Robinhood Inn also impressed the judges with their dedication to the local community.
The pub recently won a South Derbyshire Community Hero Award for its efforts to support locals throughout the pandemic, and Ruth and the team have led a number of community initiatives including the preparation and delivery of school meals free for underprivileged children in the village, by organizing a Christmas Grotto, running a food bank and delivering Easter eggs to over 230 children.
Determined to make a difference, the pub is also currently working with Burton College on a new program to help young adults with learning disabilities and mental health issues such as Asperger’s syndrome, ADHD and anxiety. , training them in waiting and bar work in order to increase their confidence and social skills.
Ruth, who has run the pub for 10 years, said: “We are absolutely blown away to be shortlisted as finalists for the Great British Pub Awards, and we couldn’t believe it when we heard the news.
“I’ve been in the business for 37 years and have never been nominated for anything like this so it’s a real honor. We also got a lot of Facebook comments and greetings from the people at the pub. .
“We’re thrilled to have come this far and to be shortlisted alongside the other amazing ads in the category.”
The finalists will be visited by the judges over the next few weeks, and the winners will be announced on Tuesday, September 28.
This year’s awards will take a hybrid format to include a live awards ceremony and general winners event, where a general winner from all categories will receive the title of Great British Pub of the Year.
