The opening of the Shoe Tree Brewing Company at the Ironwood Center in Minden is just one of many changes to the commercial landscape of downtown Minden-Gardnerville.

One of the oldest structures in Gardnerville will see a new operation. The Ritchford Hotel has been home to several restaurants over the past 120 years. Gardnerville Ranchos favorite CoCoMoes Catering announced in May its reopening in Ritchford, home to the former New Rancho Grande for many years.

Rancho Grande closed about half a dozen years ago, and the location has been touted as a possible new place of business on several occasions since. The hotel and stables, located near the intersection of Douglas Avenue and Main Street, opened in 1901.

CoCoMoes has served the residents of Carson Valley both at its location on Tillman in the Ranchos and catering for the past five years. The new location will be called Cocos on Main.

South Lake Tahoe’s barbecue, Sonney’s BBQ Shack, is hiring for a new Nevada location in what was once El Aguila Real.

The restaurant at 1488 Main Street in Gardnerville was originally the Two Guys from Italy, which opened in the early 1990s. El Aguila Real opened in 2015.

A former restaurant in Minden, meanwhile, is getting a facelift after changing hands in April.

The old Pipeline and Depot 395 was purchased by Joe Benigno’s Tree Service. The workers have redone the roof of the property. Benigno’s location on Industrial Way in Gardnerville was destroyed in a fire that occurred in March.

Work is also progressing on the new McDonald’s in Minden, which is expected to be completed this summer.

As for Shoe Tree, the new brewery opened on May 17 at 1758 US Highway 395, Ste. A, at the Ironwood Center in Minden.

It’s the second location in northern Nevada for the company, which opened in 2017 at 1496 Old Hot Springs Road in Carson City.

The brewery serves craft beers on site, as well as cans and growlers to take away.
