The Federal Court of Appeal relaunches the lawsuit brought by Jason Cater

A federal court has partially revived a lawsuit brought by Jason Carter against investigators who he says tried to attribute his mother’s murder to him. The body of Shirley Carter was discovered inside her Marion County home in June 2015. Carter was found civilly responsible for the death of Shirley Carter but acquitted in criminal court in 2019. The trial of Jason Carter has was initially dismissed by a judge in August 2020. In the lawsuit, Carter claims Marion County failed to properly train and supervise its officers prior to the investigation into her mother’s death. He also claims he was targeted for a criminal investigation rather than a civil matter.
