Revenue increased after QR codes were canceled

The turnover of public catering in Tatarstan in January-April 2022 reached almost 16 billion rubles. Compared to the same period last year, it increased by 10.1%, calculated Realnoe Vremya based on data from the Tatarstan Statistics Service.

According to information from the service, in January-April 2021, the turnover of cafes, restaurants and bars in Tatarstan was estimated at almost 14.37 billion rubles. In general, it exceeded 46.5 billion last year.

The highest number in the first four months was recorded in March 2022 — it was nearly 4.8 billion. This may be associated with the cancellation of QR codes in Tatarstan, which were required to visit public places, including cafes and restaurants since November 22, 2021. They ceased to be used on February 21, after that public catering establishments have recorded an increase in their income.

In February 2022, the turnover of public catering in Tatarstan is estimated at more than 3.6 billion rubles. In January it was a big bigger, 3.8 billion, which was obviously influenced by the January holidays — tourists and citizens of Kazan wanted to celebrate the New Year and Christmas, often went to cafes and restaurants . In April, the turnover of public catering amounted to 4.2 billion.

Growth exceeds 10% compared to the pre-pandemic period

Tatarstan’s public catering turnover also increased compared to the pre-pandemic period from January to April 2019, when cafes and restaurants were not yet restricted by anti-COVID-19 requirements. Growth was 10.2%.

Logically, the strongest growth was recorded compared to pre-pandemic 2020 even though the anti-COVID-19 restrictions in Tatarstan only came into effect at the end of March. The turnover of cafes, restaurants and bars then collapses. For example, the indicator in April 2020 compared to the previous month fell almost 2.4 times — from 3.5 billion rubles to 1.46 billion.

In the first four months of 2020, the turnover of public catering in Tatarstan was only 12.7 billion rubles. Thus, in January-April of this year, it increased by 20.5%.

The month of May 2022 has ruined the lives of restaurateurs

The turnover of cafes, restaurants and bars in Tatarstan in May 2022 can only be guessed at. Cold weather is the culprit, it did not let the patios of public catering establishments open.

The executive director of the Kazan Restaurant and Hotel Association, Galina Sharafutdinov, said Kazan citizens did not want to go to cafes when it was cold in May, although around 90% of restaurants had opened their terraces April 30. According to her, the income of Kazan restaurants with summer patios fell by 15% last month.
