Qatar Airways tops 20 best airlines list thanks to dedication and commitment to operate during pandemic
The world has had to adjust to life with a pandemic, as has the aviation industry. In the latest airline ranking, AirlineRatings.com awarded Qatar Airways 2021 the Airline of the Year.
The carrier was selected as the first airline because of “its cabin innovation, passenger service, as well as its dedication and commitment to continue to operate throughout the COVID-19 pandemic” the rating agency said in a statement.

“Receiving the Airline of the Year 2021 is particularly special for Qatar Airways,” said Qatar Airways Group Managing Director His Excellency Akbar Al Baker.
“Over the past 16 months the aviation industry has seen some of its darkest days, but Qatar Airways has continued to operate and support our passengers despite the shutdown of many other airlines due to the pandemic. “
Qatar Airways is followed by Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines, Qantas and Emirates
To enter the top 20, airlines had to achieve a seven-star safety rating as well as leadership in passenger comfort innovation.
“We are focused on leadership and airlines that innovate to make a real difference in the passenger experience,” said Geoffrey Thomas, editor-in-chief of AirlineRatings.com. “In our assessment, we also take into account the audited comments of passengers on our website. “
Air New Zealand took second place this year thanks to its innovation and leadership in the industry. Singapore Airlines was ranked third for its technological innovation and in-flight products and also received an award for best first class.
Qantas took fourth place based on its safety record and fiscal performance, followed by Emirates in fifth.
AirlineRatings.com is the global forerunner in safety, product and COVID-19 assessment. It usually announces its major airlines in November, but has decided to change schedules due to the pandemic.
“We pushed the 2021 announcement back into the year 2021 due to the chaos of COVID-19 and we wanted to see how the industry would handle the pandemic over a longer period of time before making any selections,” Thomas explained to CNN .
